More clothes isn't better in combat, ask anyone comfortable enuf that less clothes is better if you wanna be agile and dextile. There ARE reasons why things are so common you know, and no, if you think about it, less clothing to the point of half nude isn't ALL about the sex part of our brain, there is logic in all of it. Final fantasy's clothes are the idea of unrealism, you do not wear chains or things that cover your face without providing protection unless your trying to look badass
If an outfit is craftily made, it can be full of armour and allow for swift movement - more clothes can indeed be better - provided it does something to help your protection. Leaving your cleavage exposed does little to help that, and would probably feel quite uncomfortable anyways. Having metal at your hips where you need to run might not really be very nice to run in, either.
Perhaps there are a few benefits to RPG costumes with little clothing, I agree, but most of the time it's just to attract more players in the younger generation. There isn't much other reason for the common large bust sizes of today's female RPG characters.
Final Fantasy's costume designs vary from being heavily-clothed to little-clothed, but all of them are skilfully styled (And dang were their graphics amazing. 030).
I'm sorry if this looks like it's becoming an argument. D8
